Edit Packaging Text Without Reshooting: Qwen Image Edit for Labels
A new flavour, a revised net weight, a different language for a new market — each used to mean a new photo shoot or hours of manual retouching to rebuild curved, lit text on a bottle. Qwen Image Edit can change text on packaging while keeping the font style, perspective and lighting, which turns a reshoot into an edit.
Why text is the hard case
General image models have historically produced "near-miss" text: letters that look right at thumbnail size and are wrong at zoom. On a product listing that is not a cosmetic problem — a misspelt ingredient or weight is a compliance problem. Qwen-Image was designed with text rendering as a core capability, in both alphabetic scripts and Chinese, which is why it is our default for label work.
The workflow
- Start from the sharpest source. Text edits inherit the resolution of the input; upscale small supplier images first.
- Edit one text block at a time. Change the flavour name, check it, then the weight line. Batching several changes increases drift.
- Quote the exact old and new strings. Use quotation marks and keep case as it should appear.
- Lock style explicitly: font, weight, colour, curvature, position.
- Mask if needed. On inpaint, a mask around the text block keeps the rest of the label pixel-identical.
- Verify at 100%. Read every character against your spec sheet.
Prompt templates
Change the text "250 ml" on the bottle label to "500 ml". Keep the same font, weight, colour, size, curvature and position. Do not change any other text or element.
Translate the front label headline "Green Tea Shampoo" into Japanese "緑茶シャンプー", matching the original typography style, colour and placement. Keep the logo and all other text unchanged.
Where it still fails
- Small print: ingredient lists and legal text at a few pixels high are not reliable. Replace them with a clean flat label overlay, or reshoot.
- Heavily embossed or foil text: reflective lettering can lose its material look.
- Regulated claims: nutrition panels, certification marks and safety warnings should come from your real artwork, not from a generative edit.
Cost
Each text change is one edit: $0.032 on Qwen Image Edit Plus, $0.045 on Qwen Image 3.0 edit at list price. Localizing the label on an eight-image set for one new market is roughly $0.25 plus retries — compared with a reshoot day.
